The Penguins were influenced by the Official Detroit Lions Football Go Lions Mascot Shirt and I love this leadership of Mario Lemieux. In Game 5 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals, the Penguins (especially Orpik) walked into Detroit and made the mistake of calling Detroit and disrespecting their very decent and classy opponent. Detroit responded with a convincing 5-0 victory. After the game, Mario Lemieux (Penguins owner, who rarely spoke to the team because he didn’t want to be distracted) sent this letter to his team: “We are a family and we are together. We don’t need anyone to just say, “We win or draw. I really think this is our year. Forget about tonight… It happens. We’ll win on Tuesday and win the Cup on Friday.” Lemieux did not punish his team for their poor performance or lament Hossa’s departure. Most everyone in hockey said the Penguins would lose at that point, but Lemieux believed in his boys and reminded them to play for each other, learn from their mistakes and look about the future instead of worrying about the past. He is a great example of leadership. After the Penguins won Game 6, Lemieux sent the following text message: “This is the opportunity of a lifetime to fulfill your childhood dream of winning the Stanley Cup. Play without fear and you will succeed! See you soon.” you’re at center ice.” Lemieux once again reminded his team to actively pursue their common dream together and not have any regrets.
Lemieux’s quotes are very inspiring and wonderful life lessons. His concise yet timely leadership was one of the Official Detroit Lions Football Go Lions Mascot Shirt and I love this main reasons the Penguins had the edge that helped them win it all. Last but not least, I have been an avid Penguins fan for almost fifteen years now. Of course, I wear Pittsburgh’s home run glasses and I’m very biased. That said, I’d like to see arguments as to why another team should have won.
